Is getting to spend time with Aric a good enough reason, it is to me!
You guys made Beaverhead sound so awesome. I’ve got my eye on San Juan Solstice this year so I’ll have to pass… but here goes my sales pitch
I think you should choose somebody who hasn’t ran an ultra yet. This would be an amazing first ultra experience and this is the type of race that will keep that person running for years to come. How does life get any better when you win an entry into your first ultra, amazing views, new friends and super swag!! I defer my vote to a first time ultra runner. #nowgogetit
I’ve run a few ultras, one in Maryland and the “other 2” are actually one race, two consecutive years – a race I’m now the RD for. I’m in Virginia, and though I spent a summer in Estes Park, CO, there’s much about the country that’s a mystery to me. That section of the country – Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and even Washington – seems absolutely beautiful. I’d love the chance to visit there some day and if I can get out there to run an ultra it seems like an extra bonus. Now, convincing my wife (not a runner) that going that far for a race is a great adventure could be a challenge, but I’d be happy to report on how it goes as the race gets nearer. Who knows, it could make for some fun bonus content for future Singletrack Sessions! Also, I’ll bring some beer.
The rediscovery of adventure, fun and living life, and the phrase Now Go and Get It means more now than it ever has.
My entire life was filled with unhealthy life style choices which caused my weight to skyrocket and my activity level to plummet. However almost 2 years ago I began making a change, and this change has allowed me to discover a new passion, addiction and love, and that is trail running. Trail Running reconnected me with something that I loved when I was younger and that was being in the mountains, and for a short time escaping the stresses of life. It also introduced me to races that regardless of how fast, or slow welcomed you in and supported you till the finish. Running in the Beaverhead race for me would not just be my first Ultra Marathon, but would represent something with much more significance. Regardless of how that day goes I will be pushing myself to a new level, and accomplishing something that I could have never of done before. I would love an opportunity to represent Trail Manners at this race, and apply the information you have provided in your podcasts.
Hey Joel and Aric! I would love to run the Beaverhead 100k again and maybe actually finish this time! I ran the 100k this year with you guys and only made it to the start of the 55k. I got pulled off the course because I did not make the time cut-offs. Those mountains and the extra hot day kicked my butt! Plus I was carrying way to much gear! I would love a re-do! Running it this year gave me the experience that I need to make it through the whole course next year.
I had the great opportunity to meet you both at the pre-race dinner at this years Beaverhead race. I also thought the food was great and I ate too much! You guys might not remember, but we had a great discussion about how ready we all thought we were for the race and how much you liked the food from 9 Beans & A Burrito in Twin Fall, ID where I live with my family.
Hope you guys are doing great and hope to see you on the mountain again!
Hey Guys,
Thank you for the shoutout on Episode #61, the love, and the search for love.
That Beaverhead 55k sounds like a phenomenal race and I would love to run it.
There are several reasons that I’d love to win this. The first is this could be great training for my 100 miler next year. That’s right, preparation for a race. The second reason is I hear this race is great for meet ups for singles. The third reason is this could be a part of my last hoorah. If all works out like y’all want, I’ll soon be in a relationship and my freedom will be gone. This would serve as a final trail running bachelor party!!!
Thanks for the consideration.
I’d love to give this beautiful, challenging run a shot! I guarantee it will take me longer to run this than the winners of the Javelina Jundred but thats OK(ha ha). I’m looking for a good challenge for my 2018 year and I can’t quite get myself to commit to another 100 yet but this could be the perfect fit for the year and will challenge me to buckle down and train! 100K or bust! Let this girl show you how it’s done!
I signed up to run this last year but on July 3rd I managed to fracture my wrist. Me and the 4 wheeler got in a fight with a rock and we all lost. I went to the Dr the next day and my first question to the Dr was can I still run. He then asked me like on the road and my response was no I have a 55K that I’m signed up to do on Saturday his response was I would feel better if you had a cast. He told me to call the orthopedic surgeon in the morning. I’m pretty sure they talked because they didn’t give me muy cast until July 10th. So I had to miss the race last year. David Tarkelson was super awesome when I told him I couldn’t make it. I have already signed up for the race for next year and have inspired a grew other crazy people to do it with me. From where I live there are 8 other people from the same area. If I win that would be great. If not I’m doing it anyways. Happy running out there and I love your FB #trailmanners #wdyfty
Last year was my first Beaverhead experience as I prepared myself for the 55k. I have a brother-in-law living in Vegas who had recently acquired a thirst for trail running and decided that his first trail race would be with me at Beaverhead. His training required much more effort than mine only because he had to travel much further to get to some good mountains with elevation at altitude. I live in Idaho Falls and had many options. But he prepared well and was ready for the race, until at mile 3 he rolled his ankle. I thought for sure that he was done for as he could barely walk let alone run the remaining 30 miles. He told me to go on and that he would see if he could get it tapped at the next aid station, but I knew his race was over. After I finished the race, I fully expected to see him waiting for me at the finish line with a DNF under his belt for his first ultra. But he wasn’t there. I then became worried wondering where in the crap he was. I thought for sure that there was no way he could still be on the course, so checked with the timers who were tracking the runners. They were so good at helping me figure out where he was and I couldn’t believe that he was still on the course. After some time, he finally came hobbling down the hill towards the finish line with two make-shift trekking poles made of sticks he had found in the woods. The dude seriously hiked 30 miles on a severely sprained ankle because he didn’t want a DNF on his first trail ultra. I would love to see him get back to Beaverhead next year for redemption and nominate him for the free entry!
Hi Guys,
I would like to win this because my girlfriend and me need a good reason for a US – Vacation (because it´s expensive). And it would be my first Ultra. We would do a Roundtrip to visit some National Parks and then I race Beaverhead, nice!
Best Regards from Germany
This PA kid’s heart yearns to return to the majestic Lemhi Valley and pay proper homage to the mountain running gods. Many moons ago, the Salmon-Challis National Forest saved me from a dismal life without wildness when I was able to sneak out there to work a couple summer seasons with the Forest Service. I embraced Salmon and it clings to a my heart despite my having to return home to my wonderful family. Running hadn’t found me yet during my brief time in the gem state and I have made the most of our own brutal east coast trails in the mean time; but I now yearn to return and make my bodily sacrifice before the alter of the Continental Divide Trail.
Let me open with a statement that is sure to take me out of contention for this awesome contest: I’m a road runner. BUT! I’m converting! The whole story is, I set a goal 3 years ago to qualify for the Boston Marathon. After 14 (!) attempts in that time span, I finally did it about 6 weeks ago. But here’s the best part-when I crossed the finish line, I loudly and proudly proclaimed that Boston will be the last road marathon I ever do. I want to complete my goal but throughout that training, I learned that my heart (and feet) belong on the trail. I’ve done 2 ultras so far (a 50k and 50 miler) because I need to scratch that trail itch in between marathon training blocks. But come April, this guy is putting on his trail shoes for good, and not looking back. Having a shot to run my first 100k in a place I’ve never been, with people I’ve never met, seems like the chance of a lifetime. I can’t wait to feel that searing pain that comes with running at altitude (I’m from Wisconsin, elevation 602 ft!). One of the new goals I’ve set for myself is make sure that I see every state in the US, and running is my excuse to check new states off the list. Idaho and Montana are both places I haven’t been yet, and based on the description of this race, it seems like the ideal way to justify spending a bunch of cash to go there! Thanks for considering me, and thanks for putting out content that gets me through my early morning runs!
You know how younger siblings feel like they always get the short end of the stick? (Just ask my sister, I am sure she has plenty of examples). Or…you could just ask the wife of the “Inventor of Trail Running”. Never, in my whole life (or at least as long as trail running has been invented), have I had 1st pick race. The Hardrock lottery comes first, followed by race options A, B, C, and D. By the time this is all said and done, I am left with, well, 2nd pick. Let me remind you, 2nd pick must fall precisely no less than 2 weeks prior or later than 1st pick choices. (Who can handle 2 races 2 weeks in a row with 2 kids 5 and under anyway?!) Then, comes the busy school schedule that is filled up with soccer games each and every weekend that are coached by Mr. Inventor himself leaving Mrs. Inventor to run around with those 2 crazy kids. This busy teacher, mother, and wife needs a break! I think a weekend getaway running on the inspiring, jaw dropping Beaverhead 100k course would do the trick. Sign me up for a full day of mountain running (or freedom from the everyday grind). Best yet, I might actually have 1st pick!
Howdy Guys,
I ran the 55k at Beaverhead last year and it was amazing!
I would love the opportunity to come back to Salmon and run the 100K. I love bringing the family to a race and being able to show my kid that anything is possible when you set your mind to it. This would also be good training for longer distances in the future.
Also, there are some killer views on the CDT.
Catch ya down the trail.
Cheers,
Stacey
This race sounds delightfully punishing. I need to get my rear in gear for the Bear in the fall, but I’m too chicken to sign up for this one on my own. A free entry is just what I need to commit. 🙂
Beaver… Head giggle giggles.. I would like to run this so my wife Trinity and keep on giggling as she supports me in running the event with Beaver in it… oh the signs she will make and the treats too… talk about motivation.
